From the funds we receive into the account of the #HeatForGreenhouses project, we apply a 12% administrative fee, which supports the work of the Foundation’s team and also enables us to develop other projects. However, this is not an automated process. If you are not comfortable with this deduction, please send us an email at info@pelicanlive.com, together with confirmation of your contribution, requesting that the 12% fee not be applied. We will take this into account.

#HeatForGreenhouses project helps preserve unique collections of tropical and subtropical plants in the greenhouse complex of the M.M. Hryshko National Botanical Garden of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine during the winter period, assisting in overcoming emergency situations as well as supporting planned reconstruction works.

The year 2026 began not only with severe frosts, but also with the destruction of Kyiv’s energy and heating supply facilities by the Russian army, which led to prolonged electricity and heat outages in critical infrastructure sites, including the botanical garden. As a result, the unique collection of tropical and subtropical plants once again found itself on the edge of survival.

During electricity and heating outages, plants experience cold stress in a way similar to humans. For greenhouses, maintaining a stable temperature is essential; otherwise, parts of the collections may be lost.

In addition, due to the pecularities of public budget financing, the botanical garden is not always able to promptly cover urgent needs before budget allocations are approved. Therefore, external support remains crucial even when formal payments become possible, as resources are still insufficient for stable operations.

Since November 2022, our joint team with the Botanical Garden has been raising funds and ensuring the purchase of energy resources to operate boiler houses and diesel generators that support the greenhouses during blackouts. Thanks to our donors, we were able to purchase heat pumps and generators for part of the greenhouse complex. This initiative has already helped the greenhouses survive their third winter, through cold and outages – ensuring that the collections remain alive, preserved, and accessible to visitors and future generations.

The charity foundation regularly and transparently publishes reports on incoming donations and expenditures.
