Exhibition of photographs ‘Adaptation’ and ‘Blackouts’ by Lyuba Bobrova

Photographer and our volunteer Lyuba Bobrova presents a heartfelt story about resilience and adaptation in her first photography exhibition, which includes the series Adaptation and Blackouts. The exhibition opened on 16 January at the XYZ Gallery in central London (5 Grays Inn Rd, London WC1X 8PH, next to Chancery Lane tube station) and will be open daily from 17 to 26 January 2025 from 12:00 to 18:00.

These thought-provoking showcases, presented through striking photography, shed light on the ongoing humanitarian crisis stemming from the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The exhibition also aims to support the Ukrainian people by raising awareness and funds for the ‘Home Again’ project, which helps rebuild lives and homes destroyed by war.

“Adaptation” and “Blackouts” make their debut at XYZ Gallery, offering viewers a moving look at the resilience and determination of people affected by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Through her lens, Lyuba invites the audience to reflect on the indomitable human spirit in the face of adversity and to contribute to positive change at the same time.

Adaptation”, a series of photographs, explores two Ukrainian families trying to start a new life after being destroyed by Russian missiles. The series shows the ruins of their former homes and life in the new houses they have received as part of the Home Again project. The project, funded by Citi Ukraine and implemented by the Peli Can Live charity foundation in cooperation with the Kyiv Capital Rotary Club, is a testament to the resilience and recovery of communities in the face of adversity.

‘Blackouts’ documents the daily resilience of Ukrainians amidst power outages caused by infrastructure strikes. A series of twelve photographs taken in an underground shopping centre during a blackout in Kyiv, the film captures moments of everyday life that continue despite the challenges of war. Each image captures the harsh reality of life during the war and the indomitable spirit of the Ukrainian people.

This dual exhibition is not only an artistic statement, but also a call to action. Visitors will have the opportunity to support the fundraising campaign for the Home Again project, directly contributing to the reconstruction efforts and bringing hope to those affected by the ongoing conflict.
