Community surveys on the state of Shelterbelts
With the financial support of ING Bank Ukraine, and in partnership with National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine, we are implementing the #ShelterbeltsOfLife project aimed at restoring shelterbelts.
If you are concerned about the condition of shelterbelts in your community or agricultural enterprise, we kindly ask you to complete the survey.
Your responses will help us select communities and farming enterprises for partnership in 2026 and 2027. Each month, we review the submitted responses, summarize the results, and determine the appropriate format and scope of support for selected communities and farms.
We have prepared two categories of questions:
- regarding the needs of communities/farmers for the restoration (or establishment) of shelterbelts;
- regarding the understanding of organizational and legal aspects related to shelterbelts.
Based on the survey results, we will prepare and publish a consolidated analytical report that can be used as a data source for environmental and ecosystem restoration projects.
The survey will remain open until June 1, 2026.
The survey is conducted within the framework of the “Shelterbelts of Life” project. The mission of the project is to restore, establish, and preserve shelterbelts across Ukraine.
The charitable foundation Peli can live works systematically on shelterbelt restoration. Below is an overview of how the foundation supports its partner communities:
- coordinates the process of restoring or establishing shelterbelts;
- designs restoration projects, selects appropriate tree species, develops mixed-planting schemes, and supplies seedlings;
- conducts long-term site monitoring for a period of seven years;
- provides a comprehensive maintenance plan for newly established shelterbelts, ensures scientific supervision and consultations, including on-site expert visits;
- procures machinery and equipment required for shelterbelt maintenance;
- organizes training events for community representatives and activists (covering legal, environmental, and organizational topics);
- provides partnership support to civil society organizations and projects aimed at preserving natural biodiversity;
- offers legal counselling.
A previous survey on the importance of shelterbelts was conducted in October 2020. The survey involved 80 leaders of amalgamated territorial communities from 22 regions of Ukraine: 14% urban communities, 41% settlement communities, and 45% rural communities. The results of the 2020 survey are available via the following link.
Please feel free to contact us if you have additional questions regarding shelterbelts. We are open to cooperation.
