Shelterbelt in Prystromy Village, Studenykivska TC
The first of three shelterbelts was established in Studenykivska TC as part of the Shelterbelts of Life project.

Shelterbelt Composition
The shelterbelt was established using a three-row planting scheme. Linden was planted in the first and third rows, while acorns of English oak were sown in the second row. The third row was supplemented with seedlings of English walnut and sour cherry.

The combination of linden, oak, walnut, and sour cherry is intended to create a resilient protective planting. The shelterbelt will help reduce wind impact, protect the soil from erosion, and provide additional habitat and food resources for birds, insects, and other wildlife.
How the shelterbelt was established
The initiative to involve Studenykivska TC in the project was launched by Alona Hrynevych. Her proposal was supported by Maria Liakh, Head of the community, and Hryhorii Sych, Head of the Studenykivskyi Regional Landscape Park.
Before planting began, employees of the municipal institution “SA of the Studenykivskyi Regional Landscape Park”, under the supervision of Hryhorii Sych, cleared the site and prepared the soil. This made it possible to establish three rows of plantings along a 500-meter stretch.
The main planting took place on March 18, 2025. Community residents, students of Studenykivskyi Lyceum, local government representatives, forestry professionals, environmental specialists, and the project team took part in the work. Among the participants were 11 community residents and 21 lyceum students.
Oleksandr Sovakov, scientific adviser to the Shelterbelts of Life project, developed the planting scheme and gave the students a lecture on the importance of shelterbelts, environmental protection, and educational opportunities in environmental and conservation-related fields.
Alona Hrynevych coordinated the initiative within the community. Yurii Saienko, Head of the Prystromy Village Starosta District, and Serhii Kyrychenko, Principal of Prystromy Gymnasium, helped organize the participants and coordinate the work. Linden seedlings were provided by the Stolychna Forestry Office branch of the State Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine.”

Shelterbelt Monitoring Dates
- April 8, 2026 – monitoring of the condition of the plantings and supplementation of the shelterbelt with new plants.
Soil Analysis
An agrochemical analysis of the soil was conducted to establish baseline data for assessing growing conditions, planning future maintenance, and tracking changes throughout the shelterbelt’s seven-year monitoring period.
Baseline soil data: the soil is non-saline; pH of the water extract – 7.5, pH of the salt extract – 7.3; organic matter content – 24.2%; nitrate nitrogen – 10.7 mg/kg; available phosphorus – 308 mg/kg; available potassium – 54 mg/kg.
