Shelterbelt near Borok Village
The first shelterbelt was established in the Korostyshiv TC (territorial community) as part of the Shelterbelts of Life project. New trees were planted in place of an old single-row poplar planting, creating single- and double-row sections with a total length of almost 1.7 kilometers.

Shelterbelt Composition
The planting is primarily composed of English oak. Oak was planted in the first row, while the second row consists of sycamore maple together with fruit trees: apricot, quince, and pear.

How the Shelterbelt Was Restored
Cooperation with the Korostyshiv TC began at the initiative of local activist Maryna Lakyda, with the support of the Korostyshiv City Council.
A site near Borok Village was selected for the new shelterbelt. An old single-row poplar shelterbelt had previously stood there. After the trees were removed, a new multi-species planting was established on the site.
More than 40 people took part in the planting: 20 students and teachers from Lyceum No. 2 named after L. Kh. Darbinian, 10 community representatives, 10 specialists from the State Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine,” and the project team. The students’ work was coordinated by teachers, including Lesia Shcherbakova.
The Korostyshiv and Teteriv Forestry Units of the “Capital Forest Office” Branch of the State Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine” provided the seedlings. Specialists from the Korostyshiv Forestry Unit also assisted with the planting.
Equipment provided to the community for site preparation, planting, and subsequent maintenance:
- ARPAL MK-120BD branch shredder
The equipment is intended for clearing and processing woody debris and maintaining the site in good condition.

Shelterbelt Monitoring Dates
- July 25, 2026 – assessment of the condition of the plantings.
Further monitoring will include assessing tree survival rates, maintaining the site, and supplementing the shelterbelt as needed.
